We welcomed a Wildish working party to the woods. They explored making the most out of a fallen silver birch tree. We used the trunk to make planks and uprights to create a bench (see photos below). We used a battery powered chainsaw to cut smaller branches and put them in a charcoal kiln to make charcoal. The battery was recharged using solar power. Some larger logs were chopped by the heroic team and stored to season ready for next year’s firewood. We saw where children had made dens with the brash. Nothing was wasted. Some of the tree remains on the ground as habitat.
The team planted 4 new 7 foot high birch saplings in an area recently cleared of rhododendron.
We had a walk around the woods identifying trees. As you can see from the photo some grown ups keep their tree climbing skills sharp as ever.

Thank you to the group for all your hard work. Lovely to make new friends and contacts.
